In order to calibrate chuff or configure ports the Q2 upgrade software and QSI programmer are required. A file for the particular loco is first modified by the Q2 upgrade software and programmed into the decoder in the loco.

JMRI Operations import locomotives (engine) and cars from a file - field requirements
JMRI specifies the fields and file formats for the car and engine records. These specifications set the sequence of the fields, the number characters, and which fields are required versus optional. The following is a summary of the JMRI field requirements:
Car Fields
1. Number: The car number (Required - 10 characters max)
2. Road: The railroad name abbreviation (Required - 12 characters max)
3. Type: The type of car; e.g., Boxcar (Required - 12 characters max)
4. Length: The length of the prototype car in feet (Required - 5 characters max)
5. Weight: The weight of the modeled car in ounces (Optional - if left blank JMRI will calculate from length and scale)
6. Color: The color of the model car (Optional - 12 characters max)
7. Owner: The owner of the model car (Optional - 12 characters max)
8. Built: Year prototype car was built (Optional - 4 characters max)
9. Location: Location of model car on layout (Optional - at least 25 characters)
Engine Fields
1. Number: The engine number (Required - 10 characters max)
2. Road: The railroad name abbreviation (Required - 12 characters max)
3. Model: The model of the engine; e.g. F7, GP20, 2-6-6-4, Allegheny (Required - 12 characters max)
4. Length: The length of the prototype engine including tender (Required - 5 characters max)
5. Owner: The owner of the model car (Optional - 12 characters max)
6. Built: Year prototype car was built (Optional - 4 characters max)
7. Location: Location of model car on layout (Optional - at least 25 characters)
